Without the alternator voltage regulator, the input voltage can overload the electrical systems in your Fox Body. To avoid this, the voltage regulator guarantees that the alternator output maintains a constant charging voltage of between 13.5V and 14.5V. This is accomplished in a manner similar to a linear regulator. A bad voltage regulator can definitely ruin your car battery. If too much voltage is flowing to the battery, it can destroy your battery. Alternately, if the voltage is low, the battery won't be able to charge fully, and you can have trouble starting your car. This voltage regulator is a Motorcraft OEM replacement part that was designed and tested to be durable and reliable under extreme conditions.
