1979-93 Mustang Outer Door Handle w/ Rivets, LH Black by 5.0 Resto

I put new handles on my car after I bought it 2 years ago. The passenger side worked well in the beginning and still works well. After a short time the driver's side became "loose". Not the base plate that is riveted to the door panel, but the actual handle. It had so much play that it started scratching my door paint and the paint off of the handle where it contacted my door every time I opened it. You can see in the pic on the right side and also scratches going to the left of that all along where it contacted my door every time I opened it. I figured it was a fluke and maybe I installed it wrong. Anyway, this summer it was driving me crazy so I ordered a new driver's side door handle to fix it. When I removed the handle that was on the car I could immediately see what the problem was. The silver pin on the right side has way too much free-play. It should be very tight. The new one that I didn't install yet seemed much tighter. Well I installed the new handle, and the first time I opened the door I had the same problem. That pin on the right side is I guess not quite big enough. I do NOT know why the passenger handle (which doesn't get used as much but still quite frequently) works well or why it is just the one pin on the driver's handles that doesn't fit right. But this is my second handle with the same exact problem. I riveted all three handles the same way and the base plates are very strongly attached to the door panel. The base plates are as tight as can be to the door. It is the actual handle which loosens itself from the base plate due to inaccurate pin sizing. Another case of a good idea having metal door handles available to replace the plastic ones, but not worth it unless they fix the flaw.

Driver side pivet pin became loose after a few operations. I ordered another and the same thing. Useless same as other complaints.

Have bought these for 2 different cars now. So far the actual construction of the handles are ok. The handles sit off the body farther than the factory ones do. Which isn't a huge deal. The biggest problem is that when I was installing the second set passenger door handle one of the rivets didn't seat all the way. And instead of just coming into the site and adding the rivets to the rest of my order I have to buy a whole new handle instead. Ruffles my feathers that I have to buy another handle but I can't find rivets that size anywhere in town or the website.

On a very cold morning I went to open my 25 year old car door and the handle broke, upon inspecting it, I saw that it was made of plastic and I couldn't believe it. I ordered a new metal door handle from Latemodel Restoration and in 2 days it was at my door step. Not only did the new handle look just like the original and was real easy to install, but I also have the peace of mind that I'll never break it again. I am completely satisfied with my buy and recommend people buy this before they go through the inconvenience of a broken door handle.

I bought the set of door handles late summer. All metal sounded good! They looked good and felt good. Installation was a breeze. Finally I could open my door again. The fitment was subpar. There is a big enough gap on the leading edge that I can stick my pinky between. Then the trailing top corner contacts my door and has chipped away my paint! The reason being, as someone else has already mentioned, the hinge pins are sloppy loose! Not sure that is the reason for the big gap though. Unacceptable! I guess that's what you get for the price.
