This set of Mustang door panels ship with the material covering one side of the door panel without cut outs. The back side of the door panel board has perforated opening locations for such things as door handles, window cranks, electric windows, speaker covers, etc.
Chalk marks on the material face act as a guide where cuts are to be made for arm rests, door handles, etc. Once the material is cut all of the chalk marks can be removed with alcohol or soap and water. If you have a question about which openings to cut and which ones not to cut, please refer to your original door panel as a ready reference.
It is your responsibility to remove whatever perforated openings that are required for your Mustang. It is recommended to carefully use a single edge razor blade to remove perforated openings. Once the openings are cut out, the material should be cut to accommodate the part that needs to go into the opening.
This can be done by using a razor blade or razor knife to cut an "X" through the material in the center of the opening. Please be careful not to cut the "X" all the way to the edge of the opening in the board. It is suggested to leave 1/4" of material inside the opening so it looks clean when the material is folded back.
After the "X" cut is made you can fold back the material so you can install door handles, arm rests, etc. If desired, you can tape of glue the flaps of material to the backside of the board, but it is not required as once the hardware and door panel are installed, you will not be able to see the loose material.
While removing the Door Panels on your 87-93 Mustang is a fairly straightforward process, it may seem a bit daunting to the uninitiated. At some point in time, all Fox Mustang owners will be faced with removing their Door Panels to replace Door Lock Actuators, Power Window Motors, or even to just hang a new set of Doo... more
Let me first say that LMR customer service and TMI customer service and management have been top notch! After a couple missed attempts I finally got a set of door panels that are far superior to the stock ones. About the only negative thing I can say is that the color match is not as close as I would like. Even the new polyurethane canyon red dash pad from LMR is a closer match in color to the factory but the quality of these door panels overrides that fact for me. How can the quality be better than the original? SIMPLE. Acrylic backing boards. The entire door panel is constructed from 1 piece of acrylic and all the holes are machined into the acrylic. What this means is no more water soaked fiber board backing, warped door panels or the holes for the door panel pins getting blown out leaving your door panel flapping in the wind. Also, these panels actually provide some sound deadening characteristics over the stock door panels. The acrylic is very thick making the door panels pins difficult to initially get installed into them but once they are installed there is no worry about ever having to replace them because they will never pull out of the acrylic like they did the 30 year old fiber board. Do yourself a favor and buy some quality door panel pins. I got a box of 25 from a body shop store for about $5. I have spent around (including the car) $15,000 on my 86 GT over the last 2 years and I am not the type of person who buys a $4 platinum spark plug and actually thinks it makes a difference. I am much more realistic than that. If you ask LMR if I am easily impressed and they will give a resounding "NO" but these door panels impress me. Even if you still have a good set of the factory door panels, I personally would replace them with these for all of the reasons I just stated.
