In 2010, Ford started using a different inner pinion bearing in the Mustang GT & GT500 8.8" rear axle. This inner pinion bearing is correct for 2010-2014 Mustang GT as well as 2011-2014 Mustang 3.7L V6 equipped with the 8.8" rear end.

While it is completely possible to use a 1986-2009 style pinion bearing & race in a 2010-2014 8.8" housing, some folks just want to use what came in the car originally.
