What Does An Expansion Tank Do?

An expansion tank connects to your radiator to catch any coolant or antifreeze that has expanded when coolant temperatures rise. The expanding coolant pours over into the expansion tank and then siphons back into the cooling system when temperatures and pressures decrease. This helps keep the radiator full at all times and eliminates any air in the cooling system, allowing your radiator to be more effective.
