1979-1995 Mustang Charcoal Vapor Canister
The fuel tank vapor charcoal canister is located on the right-hand front frame rail behind the radiator. Its basic purpose is to help protect the environment and increase fuel mileage. It does this by capturing fuel vapors and preventing them from escaping into the atmosphere. It then stores the fumes and sends them back to the fuel tank or engine intake for combustion as needed. Over the years, the charcoal will stop absorbing vapor effectively which requires the canister to be changed.
Fitment Note
- Some 2.3L engines may be equipped with a charcoal canister that only has one small nipple for the vacuum hose. Please verify fitment before purchasing. Capping the extra nipple may be required on 2.3L engines with charcoal canisters with single nipple canisters.
