The fuel tank vapor charcoal canister is located on the right hand front frame rail behind the radiator. It's basic purpose is to help protect the environment and increase fuel mileage. It does this by capturing fuel vapors and preventing them from escaping to the atmosphere. It then stores the fumes and sends them back to the fuel tank or engine intake for combustion as needed. Over the years, the charcoal will stop absorbing vapor effectively which requires the canister to be changed.
The previous owner of my 84 LX convertible removed the charcoal canister and ever since I've had the car it would always smell like gas after being parked. Since I have hooked this up the gas smell has gone away. I will be mounting it inside the passenger fender well for a clean look.
Yes, I would recommend this item to a friend!

The charcoal canister resolve the fuel smell within the cabin of my 94 cobra! It is allocated in the passenger side fender well, behind the splash guard and under the antenna. It is about a 2 or 3 hour job. I recommend purchasing the replacement clips for the splash guard from late model restoration before you begin this job. Also, have replacement vacuum hose handy just in case you have to replace it.
