What Is A Charcoal Canister?
The fuel tank vapor charcoal canister is located on the right-hand front inner fender well above the frame rail. Its basic purpose is to help protect the environment and increase fuel mileage. It does this by capturing fuel vapors and preventing them from escaping into the atmosphere. It then stores the fumes and sends them back to the fuel tank or engine intake for combustion as needed. Over the years, the charcoal will stop absorbing vapor effectively which requires the canister to be changed.
