Motorcraft Fan Clutch
Have your cooling system back in order in your 1999-2000 F-150 SVT Lightning fan clutch with this Motorcraft fan clutch! When the engine is cool or even at normal operating temperature, the fan clutch partially disengages your Lightning's cooling fan, located at the front of the water pump and driven by the serpentine belt. This saves power since your engine does not have to drive the cooling fan at full speed. When your Lightning's engine temperature rises above the fan clutch's engagement temperature, the fan becomes engaged and draws more air through your Lightning's radiator, which lowers the coolant temperature to an acceptable level. This Motorcraft fan clutch is built to OEM specs with the correct mounting locations for the fan and water pump to make it a direct swap for your original.
Fan Clutch Failure
When your Lightning fan clutch fails normally, it will stop engaging and allow the fan to spin freely, not pulling in the air required to cool your Lightning's engine. This will cause your engine to overheat and your air conditioning to stop cooling because the air conditioner's condenser is in front of your Lightning radiator. Though not as common, another symptom of fan clutch failure is when the fan clutch is locked up or always 100% engaged. If this happens during winter, the heater will blow lukewarm air instead of hot air.
