The solution to worn out SVO ball joints! 1984-1986 SVO Mustang had the balljoint as part of the lower control arm & was not serviceable. Of course, the lower control arm assembly is no longer available. The Maximum Motorsports solution for this supply problem also provides a performance upgrade for the SVO Mustang. This SVO Spindle Adapter allows the installation of tubular MM Front Control Arms on the original SVO Mustang K-member. This allows retention of the original SVO spindles and brakes. Improved performance comes from the addition of the MM Front Coil-over Conversion kit that must be installed along with the MM Front Control Arms. All MM Front Control Arms are manufactured with the late model Ford "low friction" ball joints. These ball joints are expected to last over 200,000 miles!
With this adapter Maximum Motorsports Front Control Arms, designed for an SN95 Mustang, can be installed on a 1984-86 SVO Mustang. This will require the installation of a coil-over conversion kit. Installing the stock geometry MM Front Control Arms (MMFCA-7 or MMFCA-8) will retain the original track width and wheelbase of the SVO Mustang.
Installing the forward-offset MM Front Control Arms (MMFCA-10 or MMFCA-11) will retain the original SVO Mustang track width, but will increase the wheelbase because the ball joint will be 3/4" further forward. Caster will be increased, which will help improve cornering grip as well as straight-line stability.
With all of the MM front control arms, the ball joint's pivot point will be raised by about 1/2", which will in turn lower the front roll center. The swaybar end-link mounting location on the MM control arms is further inboard, which will reduce the effective swaybar rate by about 8% (This will help reduce understeer). Forward-offset control arms may require a front swaybar relocation kit.
Stock SN95 front control arms can be installed on a 1984-86 SVO Mustang, along with a conventional spring in the stock location. SVO-specific springs cannot be used, as the relatively higher spring seat location of the SN95 control arm will raise the front of the car significantly; front springs (either stock or aftermarket) from a non-SVO application Mustang must be installed. Note that the 1999-2004 arms provide more tire clearance, allowing a tighter turning radius. The ball joint's pivot point will be raised by about 1/2", which will in turn lower the front roll center. The swaybar end-link mounting location on the stock control arm is further inboard, which will reduce the effective swaybar rate by about 8% (This will help reduce understeer.
The 1982-83 Lincoln Continental or 1984-86 SVO Mustang spindles and brakes can be installed onto a 1979-93 Mustang. The original Lincoln/SVO calipers used on these spindles have a larger (73mm) piston than the stock Mustang calipers. Either 4-lug or 5-lug rotors can be fitted to this spindle.
