So I've been trying to find a decent write up for the original Nitto 555 versus the 555 G2. I would like to open up the review by stating that my "old" pair of 555's only have about a 1,000 miles on them. So it was a more true apples-to-apples test. My main issue was that I have "too much" power and not enough grip. My old motor was an NA 302 with everything except for heads and cam, the old 555 s did a perfect job. Straight launches and confidence with every gear. With my new 331 Stroker motor, 2nd gear just always felt like it was on the edge of losing traction during a wide open pull. I put the tires on and took it for a test drive today. I drove the car for about 5 miles before I did a burnout. My initial impression was the new G2 definitely launches straighter with first gear. With my old motor this was never a problem, but with the new motor it would always fishtail to the left slightly. Wasn't really bad, but I always knew that it was coming. It seemed to spin a little bit less and be a lot more confident launching from first gear. 2nd gear felt completely confident which was my number one goal. If I had to put a number of how better than they seem to be so far, I would say they are legitimately about 20% more grip then the old 555s. In my humble opinion, the old 555's are pretty good street tires. Obviously, I haven't tried them out in the wet traction, but according to Nitto if they are supposed to do even better in the wet traction then the old ones. If your old 555's just need that slight extra push, go for the new G2. They seem to be legit so far with their upgrade. My issue was that I did not want to sacrifice wet traction, so that's what kept me from getting a more extreme grip tire. Which is very difficult to find one that has good wet and dry traction. I don't know about road noise and comfort or any of that because my exhaust just drounds it out. LOL
And if you want to compare apples to apples with your car to my car, I have not dynoed my car yet, but I would guesstimate that my car is making a legitimate 360 to 400 horsepower. Without sounding like a Honda boy or anything like that. Lol If you're someone like me who wants a good gripping tire that also does decent in the rain, I would recommend this tire. I hope that helps you guys out, because tires are an extremely important choice that cannot be overlooked.
