In 1982, this year proved to be pivotal for the Fox Body Mustang. Ford finally brought back the 5.0L we all loved and dropped the 2.3L Turbo altogether. Other popular options were carried over from 1981. Rear louvers, carriage roof, T-tops, or Recaro seats were still available options. Ford introduced the SSP Mustang only making 406 for the California Highway Patrol. This pursuit Mustang, powered by a high-output 5.0L, accelerated from zero to 60 in 6.3 seconds!
By the end of the 1982 model year, Ford and F-body performance enthusiasts would now know that the "Boss is Back!" The 5.0 Mustang equipped with 157hp and a 400lb weight advantage against the Camaro/Firebird proved to be more than enough to make this heralded as "The Fastest Car In America" of its time. The age of the 5.0L GT Mustang had arrived!
