The classic Fox Body Mustang started life in 1979 on the new Fox platform. This new platform was much more sleek than the previous Mustang II, but borrowed some of its look from European styling, making it less like the traditional Mustang of the past. Ford shaved the extra weight making this Fox platform 200lbs lighter!
Between 1979-1986 Ford offered the 4-Eye Fox Body with many engine platforms that changed over the span of 8 years, with many different options. Some of these options included the iconic 302 5.0L V8, a 2.3L four-cylinder turbo, a 4.2L V8, and 3.3L I6.
During the era of the '79-'86 Fox Body Mustang, Ford offered 3 new Mustang models. The SVO, the 1984 1/2 20th Anniversary GT350, and the limited production '79 Pace Car Mustang made their debut! The SVO was a Turbo 4-cylinder hatchback with the first air-to-air intercooler. The GT350 was available in either a hatchback or convertible and featured and Oxford White body, a Canyon Red interior, and the iconic tape sides with the GT350 markings. They came with the option of either the 2.3L four-cylinder turbo engine or the 302 cubic-inch V8!
