In 1983, the Mustang took on a different look as a result of a new front-end treatment and a new taillight treatment at the rear.
The 5.0L was one step closer to redefining the modern Pony Car while an EFI turbo option became available as well. A new Borg-Warner T-5 and 3.27 ratio replaced the 3.08 rear end and old SROD 4-speed. While the 5.0L engine was a huge hit with the tech-heads due to the low cost and heavy amounts of torque, the turbo engine still wasn't getting the recognition it deserved due to its small engine size and it suffering from turbo lag. This was one of the main reasons why Ford has invested heavily into supercharging today.
