The 1985 Mustang was a pivotal year for the Fox platform. Ford decided in which direction the Mustang was going to go, and it wasn't the economy car route! In 1985 the 5.0L gained an impressive 35hp. The L and GLX models were dropped and a precedent was made by narrowing the model choices to LX and GT!

For 1985, this staggering 35hp gain was accomplished with the help of dual exhausts, stainless-steel tube headers, roller camshaft, a new accessory drive system, and a four-barrel carburetor. With this transition, sales began to climb again, but there was still a ways to go before the Mustang was going to be able to compete with the Camaro.
