Over half of all Mustangs that were sold in 1988 were powered by 5.0L V8 engines. This showed that enthusiasts preferred the additional performance benefits that the V8 provided over the alternative option with the 2.3L 4cyl engine. It is also important to note that the 1987-88 5.0L LX notchbacks with 5-speed transmissions were the fastest Mustangs of the Fox era (other than the 1993 Cobra).
The 1988 Mustang year model was considered a carryover year from '87 by Ford. Not many things changed on the redesigned Ford Mustang. The Mustang hunger for "yellow" was answered with only a few hundred Tropical yellow Fox Body Mustangs produced!
