In 1987 Ford debuted its major redesign of the Fox Body Mustang. This redesigned Fox received aerodynamic headlights, a smoother nose, triangular shaped parking lights, wrap-around turn signal lamps, and most of the exterior moldings were finished in black. Sadly, 1993 was the last year the Fox Body Mustang!
Ford dropped the V6, 4.2L V8, and the 2.3L Turbo found in the previous years and began offering the 5.0L V8 and non-turbocharged 2.3L 4-cylinder that customers preferred. The '89 Mustang brought the Fox body to the future adding a "Mass Air" induction system replacing the "Speed density" induction found in the previous years.
One of the most saute after special editions Fox Bodys of 1987-93 was the 93 SVT Cobra and 93 SVT Cobra R Mustang. The SVT Cobra ran on a Cobra 302, with GT 40 heads, a revised cam, and a stronger manual gearbox. The Cobra R was a race purpose built Fox Body SVT Cobra that came with no back seat, no air conditioning and no power accessories dropping weight tremendously!
