How To Remove & Install 1994-1996 Bronco & 1994-1995 F-150 SVT Lightning Steering Wheel

Replace your faded, ripped, or worn-out 1994-1996 Ford Bronco or 1994-1995 F-150 Lightning steering wheel with this perforated leather steering wheel from SVE. One of the most overlooked parts of your OBS truck, which sees more use than any other part of the truck, is your steering wheel. Mirroring the design of the Lightning steering wheels, this SVE leather steering wheel for your 1994-1996 Bronco is thicker and more comfortable than the factory wheel. This SVE steering wheel has a factory-inspired design with perforated leather throughout and a black finish to match your interior. 

Starting with a new aluminum frame, the SVE wheel has 4 spokes around the airbag molded in an OE-style textured urethane. After the molding process, the steering wheel is wrapped with perforated black leather and stitched with black thread for a clean appearance that looks like it could have rolled off the assembly line. SVE made the wheels slightly thicker than stock to give you a better grip and make it feel nicer in your hands.

Removal & Installation Instructions

Step 1: Remove The Air Bag

• Disconnect the negative battery cable and let it sit for at least one minute.

• With the key removed from the ignition, turn the steering wheel a little bit in either direction until you feel the column lock.
• Remove the (4) 10mm air bag retaining nuts with a deep socket and 1/4" ratchet.
• Bring the air bag forward and disconnect the electrical connection and set it aside.

Step 2: Remove The Steering Wheel

• With the air bag out of the way, loosen and remove the 15mm retaining bolt. You will want to hold the steering wheel with your free hand while loosening the bolt.
• Find something to press against that will fit in the hole where the bolt was just removed.
• Verify you have the correct hold down bolt for the steering wheel puller, this is easily done by checking the threads in the steering wheel. 
• Assembly the puller and make sure the hold down bolts bottom out or are snug with as much thread engagement as possible. 
• Turn the press screw in until it makes contact with the item you are using to press against.
• Using your ratchet, turn the screw until the steering wheel separates from the shaft and then you can disassemble the puller. 
• Disconnect the connection for the cruise control and horn button harness.
• Remove the wheel from the truck and feed the connection harnesses through the dedicated opening. 

Step 3: Remove The Factory Parts

• With the steering wheel on a workbench, loosen and remove the (4) Phillip's head screws securing the cruise control switches and rear trim to the frame. There are 2 per side.
• Dislodge the metal clip from the trim.
• Gently separate the trim from the frame using an appropriate tool to carefully push the horn button out of the wheel. Make a note of the wire orientation and disconnect them from the button. Do this for the other side.
• Separate the wheel from the trim and set the factory steering wheel out of the way.

Step 4: Transfer The Factory Parts To The New Steering Wheel

• Position your new SVE steering wheel into place on the trim and make sure the harness is situated correctly.
• Reinstall the metal clip.
• Reconnect the wires for the horn buttons and then push them into the wheel. Remember that these buttons are side specific.
• Resituate each cruise control switch and screw them into place but do not overtighten.

Step 5: Install The SVE Steering Wheel

• Make sure whatever you used to aid in removing the steering wheel is removed and out of the way.
• Feed the harnesses through the dedicated opening and seat the wheel onto the steering shaft.
• Thread a new steering wheel bolt in by hand and then torque it to 23-33 lb-ft. Hold the steering wheel with your free hand while torquing down the bolt.
• Reconnect the cruise control switch and horn button harness.
• Position the air bag and reconnect it.
• Hand tighten the (4) 10mm nuts.
• Reconnect the battery cable and test the horn buttons.
• You can verify the cruise control switches after you go for a drive. After that, you are good to go.
