In 1996 Ford overhauled the Mustang entirely. The 5.0L was dropped and replaced with Ford's all-new single overhead cam 4.6L and dual overhead cam 4.6L, producing more efficient HP and TQ. Even though the engine had a smaller displacement, both the horsepower and torque were the same compared to the previous 5.0L. Ford also dropped the T-5 in the GT and SVT Cobra then replaced it with a stronger T-45 5-speed manual.
A new automatic transmission, dubbed the 4R70W, was also introduced to the Mustang lineup. The SVT Cobra was introduced with a new Mystic color option! Check out our 1996 Mustang specs below!
