Ford didn't change much on the 2000 Mustang from the previous year. However, SVT and Ford dropped the base Cobra model after many issues arose from the 1999 Cobra. The iconic 2000 Cobra R was introduced in its place with a powerful naturally aspirated 5.4 V-8 to back it up! Since Cobra R engines have many unique components and the production run was only 300 units, they were built as a large prototype program at Ford's Engine Manufacturing Development Operations (EMDO). Each of these 300 engines was handbuilt, and EMDO personnel performed all of the cylinder head matching, camshaft production, as well as general parts storage and coordination.
Additionally, 3 new colors were added to this year model which are Sunburst Gold, Performance Red, and Amazon Green. Check out our 2000 Mustang specs below!
