In 2001 Ford decided to bring back the revised Cobra and the all-new 2001 Bullitt Mustang to help commemorate the old school Bullitt Mustang from 1968. Sadly, the Cobra wouldn't be seen again until 2003 and the Bullitt wouldn't be seen again until 2008.

Overall the Mustang saw minimal changes in 2001, but some of the most notable changes on the Cobra were the "Cobra" lettering on the rear fascia as well as the interior receiving all-new seats. Also, a six-disc in-dash CD player was added. For 2001, five new exterior colors were added: True Blue, Zinc Yellow, Mineral Grey, Performance Red, and Laser Red.
