It's hard to believe another HPDE season is under our belt. Throughout 2025, Scott Springer had a lot of seat time in his performance pack-equipped competition orange 2015 Mustang GT. To kick off 2025, Scott debuted the car at COTA (Circuit of the Americas) in Austin, Texas, and ran at several great tracks throughout the year. Those other tracks included Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, Motorsport Ranch Cresson, Ozarks International Raceway, and Motorsports Park Hastings.
To end the year, Scott had the car back at COTA where he knocked off a seconds from his previous best. The faster time was a byproduct of good seat time throughout the year and the ability to learn from others at each track. Also in this one, we talk about the weight of this S550 Mustang GT and it being a little down on power compared to another one of our shop cars.
Over the past year, Scott Springer has focused on refining his 2015 Mustang GT for track performance, documenting every step of the journey. The goal for 2025 was to dedicate time to one car, attend multiple track events, and improve both his driving skills and understanding of track etiquette. Unlike past years, where he only drove once per year at a single track, this year’s approach was all about consistency, skill-building, and enjoying the process!

Throughout seven track events, including COTA, Motorsport Ranch Crescent, Ozarks International Raceway, Hastings, and Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, the Mustang proved to be reliable with minimal maintenance. Key upgrades included an APR rear wing, a GT350 quad-tip bumper, valence, and exhaust, longer rear wheel studs, new hubs, and a switch from Michelin Cup 2 to Falken 660 tires. Remarkably, the same brake pads and rotors were used throughout the year, with only routine oil changes required. A Watson roll bar was added to improve driver stability during track sessions.

Performance-wise, Scott shaved a few seconds off his lap times despite noticing a slight power loss in the car. The S550 Mustang remains a street-friendly vehicle, retaining its comfort features and weighing in at 3,850 lbs. Looking ahead, possible upgrades for 2026 include headers and addressing catalytic converter efficiency to regain lost power.

Equally important to Scott was the experience of meeting fellow enthusiasts, learning track etiquette, and fostering a small community of like-minded S550 Mustang drivers. The year-long journey highlighted not only the car’s durability but also the camaraderie and learning that come with HPDE (High-Performance Driving Events).

For those interested in getting started, Scott recommends MotorsportReg.com for track event listings, instructor options, and registration guidance. The overall message is clear: with preparation, humility, and dedication, anyone can enjoy the thrill of the track while respecting the craft and community.
