Fox Mustang Gas/Accelerator Pedal Install

Watch our install video to replace that worn gas pedal in your 85-93 Mustang! Accelerator pedals are easy to remove and replacing that ugly worn pedal is an easy way to dress up your Fox Mustang.

The accelerator pedal in your 85-93 Mustang is constantly getting used and abused! It is no wonder that they are always one of the most worn parts in all Fox Body Mustangs. If you have done a 5 speed manual transmission conversion on your Stang, did you know the automatic Fox Body Mustang features a narrower pedal compared to the manual transmission version? This is one of the most overlooked parts when doing a 5 speed conversion.

Watch our install video to see just how easy it is to replace your pedal. In this video, Jmac will walk you through the removal and install process. You can also simply follow the the install instructions below:

Tools Needed:

  1. Ratchet with small extension
  2. ½” or 13mm socket
  3. Flat blade screwdriver
  4. Hammer
  5. Punch

Removal & Install Procedure:

  1. Using the ratchet, remove the retaining nuts that hold the pedal assembly to the firewall.
  2. Using the screwdriver, pry the throttle cable retainer off the pedal.
  3. Using the punch and hammer, knock out the splined roll pin that holds the pedal to the pedal assembly.
  4. Remove the old pedal.
  5. Put the new pedal into place.
  6. Using the supplied roll pin and e clip, install the new pedal onto the pedal assembly.
  7. Reinstall the pedal assembly and you are done!

Our 5.0Resto gas/accelerator pedal is injection molded from plastic features the correct curvature for 85-93 manual transmission and has a factory attaching points even includes new attaching hardware.

Our test subject here was originally equipped with an automatic transmission but was later converted to a manual 5 speed. Now because of this it has the narrow flat automatic style gas pedal pad. While we wanted to put in the correct 85-93 curved wide accelerator pedal pad.

now this can be done in the car but it's a heck of a lot easier if you go ahead and just pull the pedal assembly out and do it on the ground or on the bench. Tools you need for this is a 3/8 ratchet with the small extension in either a 1/2" or 13 mm socket. You also need a flat blade screwdriver and a hammer and small punch to remove the accelerator pedal from the vehicle. Grab your socket and ratchet and remove the two retaining nuts that hold the pedal to the firewall.

Helps to have an extra set of hands under the hood holding the throttle wide open so it gives you slack in the throttle cable. now you can take a flat blade screwdriver and pry be cable retainer out of the pedal the factory pedal is held in place with a pressed in spline roll pin.

All you have to do is punch the roll pin out of the pedal assembly. Remove the existing pedal. Grab your new pedal and position it. Put in the supplied roll pin and lock it down with the supplied e-clip. Now you ready to put the pedal back in the Mustang.
