When replacing the clutch on your '79 to '04 Mustang, there is a right and a wrong way to install your throwout bearing. Doing it the wrong way, it's going to cost you a lot of money and a lot of broken parts, like a broken clutch fork, broken cable, damaged input shaft, damaged input bearing retainer. It can even damage your transmission.

Here is the wrong way to do it-- sliding it underneath the tension spring. This will cost you money, and it will require you to do the job twice to make it right. To install the throwout bearing on the clutch fork properly, you'll want the tear drop here to point toward the flat side of the opening. And from the backside, compress the tension spring fingers, and slide the bearing into place.

Before you slide everything back together, there are a few places you're going to want to put grease to stop wear. You'll want to put a dab of grease where the pivot stood stud goes. You'll want to put a thin film of grease where the clutch cable goes. Thin film of grease on the tension spring fingers. Thin film of grease on the face of the clutch fork.

Thin film of grease on the face of the throw-out bearing. And then a thin film of grease on the inside of the throwout bearing where it makes contact with the input bearing retainer. Whatever you need for the clutch in your Mustang, heat on over to We got you covered.
