Throttle Body Vs. Throttle Body Intake Plenum
The throttle body found on the 4.6L SOHC Mustang is the primary metering device for the air entering the engine. It connects to the intake tubing or cold air intake if equipped. When you hit the accelerator pedal, a cable moves to open or close the internal butterfly valve. The throttle body also incorporates the throttle position sensor or TPS. This sensor sends a signal to your PCM, letting it know what range the butterfly valve is.
The intake plenum is the component between the throttle body and the intake manifold on the 4.6L 2V. This plenum, also called an elbow, directs air from the throttle body and sends it through the intake. The intake plenum also houses many integral vacuum ports for different functions of your Mustang’s operation. Your 2V plenum will also be the mounting location for the idle air control valve or IAC valve. This is what controls the idle quality of your engine.

Instead of the separate design we are used to seeing, BBK incorporated both the throttle body and plenum together to give your 2V unmatched performance gains with its 78mm opening. This direct bolt-on replacement has shown increases from 12-15HP. It is manufactured from lightweight, 356 aluminum and powered coated grey for a perfect finish. This 78mm option also pairs with aftermarket centrifugal superchargers and turbos due to its sizing and airflow capabilities on forced induction applications.
