How An A/C System Works

The A/C system in your 1987-1993 Mustang works similarly to most vehicles of that time period. It works by cycling refrigerant through a closed loop to remove heat from the cabin. The compressor pressurizes the refrigerant and sends it to the condenser, where it releases heat and turns into a liquid. This liquid then flows to the evaporator inside the cabin, where it absorbs heat from the air, cooling it before it’s blown through the vents. The refrigerant, now a low-pressure gas, travels to the accumulator, which removes moisture and filters out debris before sending it back to the compressor to repeat the cycle. This continuous process keeps the interior cool and comfortable.

If you have a car where the A/C components have been removed, you may not have the best idea on how to put it all back. These parts include the compressor, lines, accumulator, and the condenser. Keep in mind that everyone's situation will be different depending on what was left and what was removed.
