SN95 Mustang Gets Electric Fan

Along with the redesign of the Mustang in 1994 Ford also transitioned from a belt-driven cooling fan system to a more efficient electric cooling fan assembly. Mustang electric fans are superior to belt-driven fan assemblies because they reduce accessory drag, which in turn frees up horsepower and increases gas mileage on your Mustang. Electric cooling fans also facilitate precise fan operation since the Mustang's computer can tell the fan when to turn on and off.

More Efficient, More Difficult To Troubleshoot

Although Mustang electric fans systems are considered superior in some ways they do have different points of failure not found on belt-driven fan systems. On a belt-driven system the only failure points are the cooling fan itself, the fan clutch or the serpentine belt. On an electric cooling fan system you can have bad electric connections, faulty fan motors, seized bearings and so on, making cooling fan failure harder to diagnose. If you have determined that your Mustang's cooling fan assembly is in need of a replacement look no further! This electric cooling fan is a direct replacement to the Mustang's original fan, and if the fan was at fault this replacement will have you running cool in no time!

Product Note

  • While this fan assembly will physically fit the 1994-1996 Mustang applications, this reproduction assembly utilizes an 8 blade fan compared to the factory 9 blade setup.

  • Fits 1994-1996 Mustang w/ 3.8, 4.6 & 5.0

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • I replaced my original fan with this one (LR5-8607A), now I get an Electro-Drive Fan circuit Fault Code 564. Is this the new normal with this fan?

  • The typical cause of this code is a connection issue. There are two common places:

-The fan connector itself as they typically need to be replaced at the same time the fan is due to either corrosion or the plug being head damaged and melted.

-Battery/Chassis Grounds having loose or corroded connection. The negative battery cable has a large lead that is grounded to the engine itself and then there is a smaller lead that is grounded to the core support. Check and clean both of these.

If neither of these fixes the issue, you'll be looking for damaged wiring harness or a faulty CCRM or PCM.
