3 Stars   Great clutch, not so great throwout bearing
    By on 10/27/2015
This is a great clutch kit, it grips hard, and feels smooth, and it's easy to use in traffic. It was installed at a mustang specialty shop in my 97 Cobra. After around 1200 miles, the throwout bearing was basically trashed, and this was just from the break in period, and no track use at all. If I were to buy it again, I still would, but would go and get an OEM bearing from Ford. It was frustrating having to pay labor to pull everything apart again to put the Ford part in, but other than that, I it has been excellent, with no slipping or chattering.

Yes, I would recommend this item to a friend!

    5 Stars   Feels like OEM

I had this clutch installed to replace the original factory clutch in my 1988 LX, along with a new pilot bearing, clutch release bearing and retainer, clutch cable, fork and firewall adjuster. After it was first installed, it would slip a little bit under moderate acceleration, which worried me a lot. I tried adjusting the clutch cable a little more and it seemingly made no difference. I decided to keep driving it a bit and it eventually (roughly 60km later) settled in perfectly. No slip and it bites well. I assume the freshly machined flywheel needed a bit of time for the clutch material to transfer over and bed itself properly, just like new brakes.
It doesn't feel noticeably different from the stock clutch in the sense that it still bites just as hard as I remember. I am on a mostly stock motor so I'm not pushing a lot of power to really rest the bite of the clutch. Also noticed the pedal feels over twice as light and much smoother than it previously did. That may have more to do with the new cable and clutch fork than the clutch itself though.
In any case, I recommend the Ford Racing clutch. It does the job, doesn't dramatically change the driving characteristics of the car and offers peace of mind that you are using genuine Ford parts built and tested for your Mustang.
