The 1993 SVT Cobra featured unique styling and performance modifications that made it the ultimate Fox Body Mustang! Many of these styling and performance mods are available through LMR.com to help give your Fox Mustang the look and performance found on these SVT-badged Stangs. Below we will go over many of the styling and performance modifications found on these coveted Fox Body Mustangs and we will also list out some of the available parts to help you convert your LX or GT into a 1993 SVT Cobra!

1993 Cobra Exterior Parts

The 1993 SVT Cobra featured a refined but truly iconic look with many unique exterior changes! Some of the most noticeable changes are listed below.

  • Limited colors available in Vibrant Red clearcoat (ES), Teal (RD), or Black (UA). A small number of '93 Cobras even came in the rare Performance Red non-clear coat enamel (EY).
  • Unique Tail Lights (carried over from the SVO)
  • Unique Ground Effects (Deleted GT Side Scoops)
  • Unique Upper Grille Opening For Improved Cooling - Featured A Running Pony Emblem
  • Unique Rear Spoiler/Wing
  • Unique Rear Bumper w/ Exhaust Cutouts
  • Cobra Snake Emblems on the Fenders
  • “COBRA” Text Emblem On The Rear Hatch Decklid (located on the driver’s side)

1993 Cobra Performance Parts

The 1993 Cobra received a nice boost in horsepower and performance thanks to some performance mods. Below are some of the most notable performance enhancements. Many of these parts are no longer available, but similar performance modifications are still available in many cases.

  • Use of GT-40 cylinder heads for increased power. These included 1.84”/1.54” Valves (intake/exhaust) and Crane Cams 1.7:1 roller rockers.
  • Stamped steel valve covers were used to make room for the larger roller rocker arms.
  • Less aggressive camshaft compared to GT/LX 5.0L.
  • Cobra-specific intake manifold (upper and lower).
  • Unique Cobra badge on top of the intake. 
  • Featured larger diameter runners.
  • 65mm Throttle body.
  • Built-in EGR spacer for the throttle body.
  • 70mm mass air meter.
  • 24 lb/hr fuel injectors.
  • Smaller crank, water pump, and alternator pulley. (Approximately a 12% reduction)

1993 Cobra Wheels

The 93 Cobra had a very distinctive set of wheels. They featured unique direction wheels that measured 17”x7.5” and were wrapped in Goodyear Eagle 245/45/17 tires. At the time, they were the widest tires to grace the Fox Body Mustang from the factory. Each wheel featured a build date stamped in it for authenticity!

1993 Cobra R Wheels

There were 107 Cobra R versions built. All of the 1993 Cobra R models were only offered in Vibrant red. In addition to 13" SN95-style 5 lug brakes, they had unique Black Tri-bar wheels taken from the upcoming 1994 Mustang. Their fog lights, radios, air conditioning, sound deadening, and back seat were all deleted. They had manual windows and standard non-sport style opal cloth front seats. They also had convertible inner rocker panel reinforcements, convertible floor carpeting, and an upgraded cooling system with an aluminum radiator and de-gas bottle.

1993 Cobra Drivetrain

The 1993 SVT Cobra featured an upgraded T-5 transmission that featured stronger gears and bearings. The T5 had the "Cobra pocket bearing" and featured many of the upgrades as a "World Class" T5Z transmission, but kept the same ratios as the GT and LX 5.0 trans. It also came equipped with a Ford factory shifter and what might be the best clutch to ever grace a Fox Body Mustang! The 8.8 rear end featured 3.08:1 rear end gears and allowed for the Cobra to get gas mileage that was identical to the GT model, even with the performance mods. Most Cobra owners upgraded a more performance-oriented 3.73 rear end gears.

1993 Cobra Brake Parts

Cobra models featured a wider rear track width due to longer rear axles. Because of this, they also have unique front brake rotors with a higher offset wheel mounting pad, such as our Cobra front brake rotor kit. The 4 lug front and rear disc brake setup on the 1993 Cobra was one of the most coveted performance enhancements that made it to the top tier Fox Body. It drastically improved the braking performance over the rear drum brake setup found on all non-Cobra models. Ford also equipped the Cobra with a unique master cylinder and booster. These are a very popular upgrade to non-Cobra models by converting to 4-wheel disc from drum brakes. Many of the 93 Cobra brake components are still available. There are also rear disc brake conversion kits and even 5 lug disc brake conversion kits to help any Fox Body Mustangs looking to boost their stopping power.

1993 Interior Upgrades

The interior of the 93 Cobra was an exact carryover from the 1993 GT model. The only interior upgrade was the included “Cobra” floor mats. No 93 Cobra came factory-equipped with cruise control. The interiors were available in opal gray cloth or leather, or black cloth. There was no option for black leather. While the Ford originals have been discontinued for some time now, we still offer plenty of Cobra Floor Mats to dress up any Fox Body Mustang!

If you've always wanted a '93 Cobra, but just haven't been able to find the one you've been dreaming about, you can create your own with the help of our '93 Cobra-style body kit. These kits are intended to fit 1987 and '93 Mustangs, either LX or GT. The kit consists of a grille insert, fender spats, rocker moldings, rear bumper cover, and a rear wing. The wing is molded out of fiberglass, and the rest of the kit is molded out of high-quality urethane.

If you're installing this on an LX, you will need to go ahead and pick up a GT front bumper cover and a set of GT door body side molding. If you're installing this kit on a GT, you'll need to remove all the metal attaching brackets for the factory GT ground effects. And you'll need to pick up a set of LX tailpipes, because your factory GT tailpipes are going to look kind of funny with that '93 Cobra bumper.

If you happen to have a '93 Cobra and you're looking for replacement parts, this kit isn't for you because these parts are aftermarket. They do give you the appearance, but they do attach differently than the factory Cobra pieces. Besides the obligatory trip to the body shop to have all the parts painted to match your car, you will need to have some body work done on your hatch for the wing to fit properly.
