If you are in the market for new cylinder heads for your Ford 302, LMR has a couple of different solutions for you. Currently, we offer a few different brands including SVE, AFR, and Ford Performance. You may remember when we built a 302 with our SVE 170cc cylinder heads and tested it on the engine dyno. Well, we are back with our SVE CNC 185cc heads and the AFR Enforcers on a 363 SBF build.
Why This Build?
We built this engine with street performance in mind. We didn't want to go chasing a bunch of one-off race style parts. We wanted to build something that was enthusiast-minded that you could piece together from our site. Could we have built it bigger and better to make max horsepower? Of course. However, the intention of this build was to build it as an average Fox Body owner would and to give us a good control for our cylinder head test.
The Shop and the Setup
The dyno testing was done at Eaton Balancing, Ted Eaton’s shop. Ted’s a legend—an old-school engine guy with deep knowledge, especially when it comes to Ford Y-blocks. His shop is filled with vintage tools and components, and we probably spent as much time checking out his gear as we did on the dyno.

The Results
Now, the moment we were waiting for: the dyno pulls. We made a few passes, but here are the flagship pulls:
SVE Heads:- Horsepower - 495 @ 5800 RPM
- Torque - 506 @ 4400 RPM
AFR Heads:
- Horsepower - 469 @ 5700 RPM
- Torque - 499 @ 4400 RPM
Horsepower Per Cube and Final Thoughts
Looking at horsepower per cubic inch, Ted said we should be around 1.2 - 1.3 horsepower per cubic inch. Doing the math of 495 divided by 363, we are right on the money at 1.36 horsepower per cubic inch on the SVE heads. With the AFR heads, we were sitting at 1.29 horsepower per cubic inch, which is slightly lower than the SVE, but still right where Ted had said.
We had a blast doing this engine dyno, and big thanks to Scott Hubbard for putting together such a clean and capable 363ci small block. This motor will find a home in one of our project cars soon,and we can’t wait to show you what it can do on the street.
