How To Install Fox Body Mustang GT Ground Effects Brackets (87-93)

If the ground effects, also known as side skirts, are sagging on your GT or Cobra model Fox Body Mustang, this is because the brackets have rusted through. Often these rust over time and become brittle and break. You often might not even recognize this problem until you remove the ground effects on the body of your Mustang.

Removing and replacing the ground effects on is a requirement for a new paint job. For those doing a 93 Cobra Conversion or 87-93 GT Conversion you will either need these if you have a LX model or will probably need to replace yours if you already have a GT model. Follow along in this video as we show you how our 5.0Resto Ground Effect Kit can help you tackle this project with ease!

Tools Required:

Power Drill
Drill Bit Set
Rivet Gun
Basic Cleaning Supplies

Step 1:

Remove body panel you are wanting to replace. This will require "lifting" the panel off the metal brackets and/or removing mounting screws depending on which panel

Step 2:

Once the metal bracket is exposed, locate the mounting rivets and select the appropriate drill bit size to drill out the existing rivet.

Step 3:

Drill out the rivet making sure not to go to deep and damaging other components on the car.

Step 4:

Once all of the rivets have been removed, remove the bracket and clean any dirt, rust, or other contaminants that may be on the car.

Step 5:

Carefully line up the correct bracket and insert the included rivets into the bracket and existing hole.

Step 6:

Using the rivet gun, set the rivets into place.

Step 7:

Reinstall the body panel and you're all done!

Kit includes 2 Lower Rocker Panel Brackets, 4 upper brackets for the fenders and quarter panel, and 4 lower brackets for the Fender and quarter panel. All brackets are finished in a zinc coating. The kit comes complete with a ground effect screw kit for mounting the Urethane pieces to the body. 1 kit will complete both sides of the car. 1987 to '93, Mustang GTs, as well as the 1993 Cobra, have metal retainers that hold the lower side skirts onto the body. There are five total per side, one long one that runs along the rocker, and then four short ones, two at the very rear of the front fender, and the other two are at the front of the rear quarter. These metal retainers are prone to rust and to severe damage, if the side skirts are removed improperly.

These 50resto ground effect brackets are direct replacements for the original and are available individually, as well as in a complete kit with attaching hardware. You'll definitely want to pick up a set if your GT or Cobra is on its way to the body shop.
