The Classic Look Has Returned!
Ford's design team developed an all-new platform, the first in 25 years, and created an all-new design full of retro aspects from the Mustang's past. This new S197 platform had exterior features reminiscent of the 1967-1969 Mustangs, while other elements recall 1965 Mustangs, like the triangular side windows, fastback roofline and taillights. This redesign didn't stop at the exterior, the interior and performance received a major upgrade as well. Ford added the dual-hooded dash and aluminum accent panels, big instruments, circular vents and a round steering wheel hub to bring the retro look together. Some of the modern performance upgrades included new suspension components, bigger brakes and upgraded engines!
Engine Options
Along with all these modern updates from Ford, they also released two new engines options. The 4.0L V6, producing 210HP and 240ft/lbs of torque and the redesigned 4.6L, producing 300HP and 320ft./lb. of torque using a new SOHC 3V head and manifold! The new GT500 also made a comeback with a beastly 5.4L Supercharged V8 producing a whopping 500HP and 480ft./lb of torque. The Bullitt was revived after a long 7 years, with 15 more HP & 5 more ft/lbs of torque over the stock GT!
Special Editions
This 2005-2009 Mustang redesign was huge for the Mustang community! Ford brought many special editions to the new S197 platform. These included the V6 appearance package, Shelby GT-H part of the "Rent-A-Racer" program, Shelby GT, Shelby GT500, GT/CS, 45th Anniversary Edition and of course the Bullitt. The 45th anniversary package included an optional glass roof and new emblems to commemorate the anniversary year. Only a limited number of 45th Anniversary Editions were produced. The GT/CS package adds 18-inch wheels, non-functional side scoops and unique striping in lieu of the GT emblem. After the big redesign, the 2005-2009 S197 Mustangs began to revive the Mustang's popularity and helped revitalize the brand!
