In this article we will touch on some of the key aspects of what makes the 2010-2014 Ford Mustang ,known as the S197, so special!
Ford made many changes during this new generation S197 Mustang's life. In 2010 they completely redesigned the exterior of the S197 Mustang and on the inside, quality was increased while they made their SYNC system available on all models except base 2010 Models. Then redesigned it again in 2013-14. Ford also increased power in the 2010 Mustang with a re-tuned 3V 4.6L and debuted the all new 5.0L V8 and 3.7L V6 in 2011! Ford brought back the Boss 302 and the GT500 in the following years!
In 2010 Ford decided to keep the old 3V 4.6L and 4.0L V6, however the 4.6L took a few cues from the Bullitt. After a revision 315 was the final horsepower number of the long lived 4.6L. Big things happened in 2011 with the re-vamp of the GT and V6 models. Ford introduced two brand new engines the 3.7L V6, making 305 HP and 280 ft./lbs. of torque, and the all new 5.0L Coyote! This new 302 5.0L delivered 412 horsepower and 390 ft./lbs. of torque. In 2011 Ford also debuted two new transmissions, 6-speed auto (6R80) and 6-speed manual (MT-82). The GT500 had its final hurrah in 2014 making 662 horsepower and 631 ft./lb. of torque from an all-new 5.8L V8!
The same special edition models were carried over from 2005-09 with the exception of the Bullitt. Ford decided to bring the BOSS 302 back for 2012-2013 making a huge statement on and off the track. This redesigned BOSS 302 paid homage to the old Boss 302 and was offered with two special editions of its own: The Boss 302 Laguna Seca and the Boss 302R. Both featured racing aspects, a short throw 6-speed transmission, redesigned 5.0L with a new intake, revised camshafts and a more aggressive tune! The GT500 had its finale run in 2014 with a production Mustang that was capable of 202mph!
