7.3L Godzilla Fox Body Swap | EP: 4 Swap Complete!
We have finally completed our project Fox Body with the 7.3L Godzilla swap! This project has taken a lot of time, trial, and error to complete. But we're happy to say that we were able to debut the car at our 2022 LMR Cruise-In for everyone to see!
In this episode, Landan walked us through what has been done to the car and what to expect to happen next. Unfortunately, we have been unable to dyno, take it to the track, or do a burnout in it (due to some small fine-tuning). But in the next episode, we'll have all the numbers you've been waiting for.
Follow along and check out some photos of the car! We'll include all of the parts that we can list below. If you have any questions about a specific part or would like to know more about starting your own Godzilla swap, email or give us a call, and our team would be happy to help. Now let's jump into it!
Engine Bay
So what's new with the engine? In the previous article, we were nearly complete, but the car still needed a lot of upgrades. So besides the Godzilla, these are the changes:
- We've installed a custom intake system, which allows the intake to drop down into the passenger side of the car versus having the intake stick straight up. We're hoping to run an OEM hood once we do some more fitting, but this will do.
- Due to the intake location, we changed to relocate the battery to the factory location.
- We removed the factory Godzilla fuel delivery crossover and installed a Holley Billet fuel rail.
- We added A/C to the 7.3L Godzilla (hallelujah). This is a must for us at LMR, especially living in Texas. It works flawlessly and looks OEM! This A/C system is one of our SVE products and is designed for Coyote Swaps, but we took it and made a couple of modifications to make it work.
- Now it's hard to see, but we had to dimple the primary to clear the steering shaft and move it over due to fitment concerns with the exhaust. It sucked, but it was one of the harder parts of installing the engine.
Exterior
Moving on to the exterior, we made a lot of refresh updates, while keeping the original patina paint.
- Due to the hood clearance with the original intake on the Godzilla, we installed a Cervini's 2.5" Cowl Hood. With the new intake design that Hubbard created, we have plans to refit the OEM hood.
- We replaced the faded headlights with a set of the OEM style 87-93 headlights.
- We installed a brand new front windshield glass. The previous and original glass was cracked and extremely faded. So this was a must-have.
- We resprayed all of the moldings, as long as it was still in good condition. We offer a wide variety of moldings that can be replaced from our website.
- Other things like the wiper arms and cowel vent were replaced.
- We installed new painted mirrors, roof rails, 5.0Resto Run Channel Trim and painted the door frames. We also installed new roof rail weather strips, outer/inner door belt moldings, and etc for the door. We installed some new door handles and lock cylinders. Finally, we added the Scott Drake replacement Hatchback Rear Quarter Windows.
- Moving on to the rear, we installed the original rear glass (borrowed from a donor car) and resprayed the molding. We then added the LX and Ford emblems, since the car did not have them anymore. And finally, we installed some of the correct 87-93 taillights.
Wheels & Brakes
For "Green Goblin", we made sure to upgrade the car to a 5-lug conversion. Check out what we have installed!
- In the front, we have the SVE Classic Drag Wheels in Gloss Black | 15 x 3.75
- In the rear, SVE Classic Drag Wheels in Gloss Black | 15 x 10. As for the rear tire, we have a 275/50/15 Mickey Thompson ET Street.
- Moving on to the front brakes, we installed a Wilwood Drag Brake kit. And on the rear, we just did the 5-lug axle conversion with the 5-lug swap.
Interior
Moving to the inside of the car, me completely gutted the interior and replaced just about everything! Majority of the dash was pulled and repainted and the carpet was replaced from our website. When it comes to adding modifications, you'll see all that we added:
- Maximum Motorsports 6 Point Roll Bar
- 1993 Cobra Style Steering Wheel
- Corbeau Forza Seats and 4-point racing harness
- Complete door panel refresh with everything brand new.
- Autometer Invision LCD Digital Dash
- ShiftQuick 6 Gen 2 Transmission Control System
Exhaust
Starting from the front to the rear, we installed a set of Longtube Ultimate Headers and had one of our favorite local shops, Waco Mufflers, complete the rest of the exhaust. It's completely custom with an H-Pipe, hi-flow catalytic converters, Jones Bore mufflers and exiting out with a set of 3" tail pipes.
Undercarriage
To finish everything out, we're going to walk through the undercarriage. This will have to do with the suspension, driveshaft and rear end:
- Team Z Control Arms
- Bump Steer Kit
- Strange Front Struts (Coilovers)
- Team Z Drag Spring
- Team Z Rear Lower Control Arm
- Strange Rear Shock
- Team Z Rear Upper Control Arm
- 31 Spline Diff with a 3.27 Rear Gear
- Custom Built Driveshaft
- Driveshaft Safety Loop
- Full Length Subframe Connectors
- Stifflers 6R80 Transmission Crossmember
- Transmission Cooler
