Looking to do a 7.3L Godzilla engine swap in your SN95 or New Edge Mustang? LMR.com has all the swap parts you need!
Tired of the common "coyote swap" that everyone's been doing? Then you might be pretty excited about this ultimate 7.3L pushrod engine called the "Godzilla"!
Follow along as Late Model Restoration swaps a 7.3L Godzilla engine into our project Fox Body Calypso hatch.
The massive 7.3L V8 engine was first used in the Ford Super Duty Trucks in the 2020 model year. At launch, it featured 430 horsepower at 5,500 RPM and 475 lb/ft of torque at 4,000 RPM. The OHV pushrod design was strongly different from Ford’s typical DOHC engine design, which was popular in the 5.0L Coyote and modular motor platforms. Despite having a large displacement at 7.3L, the OHV design helped keep this motor compact. This had every hot rod and Mustang enthusiast itching to get their hands on these motors for engine swaps.
Notable features on the initial Godzilla engine included cast iron block, aluminum cylinder heads, cast aluminum pistons, and a forged steel crankshaft. It featured a composite intake manifold with an 80mm throttle body and a sizeable 8-quart aluminum oil pan. Unlike the SOHC and DOHC engines, it features a single in-block camshaft. People using these engines in their swaps have done further high-performance mods such as superchargers and turbo kits.
The 1994-2004 Ford Mustang is an excellent platform for just about any engine swap. If you want to install a 7.3L Godzilla in your SN95 Mustang or New Edge Mustang, below are the core parts you will need to get this project started:
The aftermarket community is working hard to make all core parts happen. At this time, companies such as Ultimate Headers manufacture long tube headers for your 94-04 Mustang Godzilla swap project. Also, companies such as Team Z Motorsports engined an SN95-specific Godzilla swap tubular k-member (MPN# TZM-KM-94-04-7.3-WMNT). This tubular k-member also includes the needed solid motor mounts. Ford Performance also has the OEM 7.3L Godzilla motor available for purchase as a new crate engine, so you don’t have to worry about picking up a worn-out or used engine from the junkyard.
Many aftermarket companies are working on engine management systems and control packs to help you fire up a Godzilla motor in your Mustang or hot rod built. View our available parts above to see our complete offering. The 1999-2004 Mustangs featured a returnless style fuel system, so you also need to determine what fuel system upgrades you will need depending on your engine management system.
You will run into other modifications along the way, such as oil pan modifications and intake manifold clearance to fit under a hood. Depending on the transmission option you choose, you will also need to consider things such as custom driveshafts to finish your installation. You can count on LateModel Restoration to continue to offer and develop Godzilla Swap parts to help you fit these popular motors in your Fox Body Mustang, SN95, and New Edge Mustangs. Continue to check back regularly to ensure you stay on top of all of our swap parts.
